Japan Tobacco introduces new Sovereign Blue cigarettes

On February, 26, Japan Tobacco made an announcement about the introduction of Sovereign Blue cigarettes. The tobacco company will extend its profitable Sovereign brand launching a new cigarette range with a £5.99 price point. Sovereign Blue cigarettes will be sold starting with mid-March in both King Size and Superkings in 10s and 19s pack sizes. The price for both 19s packs will be £5.99.

New cigarettes will be offered in all stores across the UK. The latest variety of four SKUs (Stock Keeping Unit) moves the Sovereign cigarette brand into the Value sector, offering existing adult smokers a full flavour premium product at a reasonable price point. Sovereign Blue provides retailers with the option to make profit on the developing value cigarette sector Nielsen MarketTrack 2012, while responding to increasing demand from existing adult smokers for full flavour smokes at fair prices.

Jeremy Blackburn, Japan Tobacco’s head of communications, underlines: “The value cigarette sector is established in growth in the course of 2013. Japan Tobacco will still develop value tobacco products that provide sales for retailers. The company is assured that the affordable price for Sovereign Blue for both King Size and Superkings 19s present retailers an opportunity to benefit from this growth area, with a quality product from a respected brand.”

The new Sovereign Blue will be marketed in four SKUs with price marked packs:

  • King Size 10s, PMP – £3.25

  • King Size 19s, PMP – £5.99

  • Superkings 10s, PMP – £3.28

  • Superkings 19s, PMP – £5.99

Sovereign standard packs and the full Sovereign Black range will be on the market as well.
